It’s a legal requirement for all “pressure vessels” to undergo periodic inspection and pressure testing
These come in 2 forms for divers: (1 – Visual) a visual inspection of external / internal condition and thread gauging and (2 PIAT*) a visual and hydrostatic pressure test to a pressure of around 50% above the working pressure of the cylinder. e.g. a 232 bar cylinder will be tested to 348 bar
Fixed vessels, such as compressor filters and banks require a PIAT every 10 years
Transportable vessels, such as SCUBA and air-gun cylinders require a PIAT every 5 years
Vessels used (or can be used) for SCUBA require an additional visual test every 2.5 years. This means that for an airgun cylinder to be exempt from this test it must be fitted with a valve unsuitable for SCUBA use. Just saying that it’s only for my airgun doesn’t justify the exemption
If your cylinder is new, you can look at the manufacture date to tell when the first visual test is required. This will be stamped on the cylinder in the DD/YYYY form. If it’s a Faber cylinder, the year will also be the first 2 numbers in the serial number e.g. YY / xxxx / xxx – 2.5 years after this date (a good supplier will likely offer a free visual test if there is a large gap between the manufacture and purchase dates)
If your cylinder has been tested previously, the date will be either applied in a sticker or stamped MM/YYYY. There may also be a sticker that denotes the date of test expiry. Stickers vary in layout.
To book in your cylinder, choose the test required order online and leave the cylinder in the bunker. I will contact you when It’s ready to collect. If you need the door code, please add that in the order notes and i’ll send it asap
